Made in USA Dog Products: Collars, Harnesses, Coats, Bowls and Wipes

Short answer

Six dog items we stock carry a Made in USA claim: Lupine Pet’s collar and no-pull harness, a DCNY coat for small dogs, SodaPup’s slow feeder and lick mat, and Mr. Peanut’s wipes. Under FTC rules, that plain claim should mean the item is all or virtually all made in the U.S.; it says nothing about fit.

Our picks at a glance

  1. Reflective Dog CollarAn everyday ID collar from Lupine’s New Hampshire workshop
  2. Reflective No-Pull Dog HarnessFor medium and large dogs who pull

What a Made in USA label should mean

“Made in USA” isn’t a loose marketing phrase. The Federal Trade Commission holds an unqualified claim to an “all or virtually all” standard: final assembly or processing happens in the U.S., all significant processing happens in the U.S., and all or virtually all parts and ingredients are made and sourced there, leaving no more than negligible foreign content. The FTC’s Made in USA Labeling Rule applies that standard to product labels and to Made in USA seals, marks and tags in online and mail-order marketing.

Read the exact wording, because the variations promise less than the plain claim:

  • Made in USA: the unqualified claim, held to the “all or virtually all” standard above.
  • Qualified claims, such as “Made in USA of U.S. and imported parts”: the wording describes how much of the product is domestic and tells you that not all of it is.
  • Assembled in USA: the principal assembly happened in the U.S. and was substantial, but the parts may come from anywhere.
  • Designed in USA or ships from a U.S. warehouse: statements about design or dispatch. Neither says where the product was made.

The FTC doesn’t pre-approve these claims; it expects the company making one to have a reasonable basis for it. So every claim below is the maker’s or the listing’s own, passed on as stated. We don’t audit factories, and we say which claims you can read on the maker’s own site.

Walking gear from Lupine Pet

Lupine Pet says every item is made by hand in its workshop in Conway, New Hampshire, where its gear has been built since 1991; its own story page sets this out. We carry two of its dog pieces, both in the same six reflective designs, so a collar and harness can match. Both are in our Lupine Pet range.

The reflective collar

Lupine’s everyday flat collar carries its reflective threads inside the woven pattern, so the shine can’t wear off a printed surface, and one strong D-ring takes both the leash and the ID tags. Adjustable sizes run from a 6–9 in neck to 25–31 in, and the listing offers widths of 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch. It suits any dog who wears a collar for ID, especially one walked at dusk. Our guide to choosing a dog collar covers collar types, which width suits your dog and what goes on the tag.

The no-pull harness

A front-clip harness for medium and large dogs who pull: the leash attaches at the chest, and the front attachment redirects forward momentum back toward you. It comes in two ranges, 3/4-inch webbing for a 16–26 in chest girth and 1-inch webbing for 26–38 in, and it’s machine washable (air dry). It attaches to your dog’s everyday collar and the leash you already use; Lupine’s product page adds that it isn’t meant for a martingale collar. Pair it with the Lupine collar and both pieces carry the claim; we don’t sell a standalone leash. For how harness styles, straps and hardware differ, see how to choose the right dog harness.

The limit is size. A dog under 16 inches around the chest is below its smallest range, and our other dog harness, the padded Mr. Peanut’s PetTrek set that starts at XS, doesn’t state where it’s made. So we have no small-dog harness that carries the claim.

Tip

Lupine also offers a one-time replacement for its gear if it’s accidentally damaged in normal pet use, chewing included. Lupine handles these claims itself and asks for photos of the damage; lost or outgrown items and normal wear, including fading, aren’t covered. Lupine’s terms explain how to claim.

A coat for small dogs from DCNY

The DCNY Ranch Dog Coat from Doggie Couture NY is the only dog garment we stock. Its listing says it’s made in the USA, and it ships from the supplier in New York. It comes in small-dog sizes only, XXS, XS, Small and Medium, in three finishes: Home by Sunset, Smoked Charcoal and Sherpa Lined Denim, the only one listed with a sherpa lining. Materials and lining vary by finish.

Wide hook-and-loop closures at the chest and belly make dressing easier. XXS and XS have a built-in leash clip, while Small and Medium have an opening for a harness worn underneath. Wash it on a gentle cycle and lay it flat to dry. It suits a small dog who needs an extra layer on cool-weather walks; we don’t stock a version for bigger dogs.

Bowls and lick mats from SodaPup

SodaPup, a veteran-owned business, says on its about page that all of its products are manufactured in the USA. Our SodaPup pieces do two different jobs: one slows down a whole meal, the other keeps a dog licking soft food for a few minutes.

The Honeycomb eBowl slow feeder

A deep bowl, in yellow, whose honeycomb ridges spread a meal out so your dog works around the pattern instead of gulping it down in seconds. It takes kibble, wet food or a frozen mix and goes in the dishwasher. It suits a dog who finishes dinner before you’ve put the bag away; how to slow down a dog that eats too fast covers the other mealtime changes worth pairing with it. A bowl changes the pace of a meal, nothing more, so ask your veterinarian if you’re worried about how your dog eats.

The Jigsaw lick mat

A flat mat with a jigsaw texture that holds a soft spread in its grooves, so licking it clean takes a while. It suits dogs of all sizes and cats, comes in green or pink and is dishwasher safe. Reach for it during a bath, a nail trim or a few minutes when you need your dog settled; what to put on a lick mat has spreads and freezing tips. If you use peanut butter, check the label for xylitol, which the FDA warns can be poisonous to dogs. Stay nearby, and pick the mat up if licking turns into chewing.

Grooming wipes from Mr. Peanut’s

Our only grooming item with a Made in USA claim is Mr. Peanut’s Naturals Pet Wipes: 150 large, thick wipes per container, each 6 × 10 in, sold as 4-in-1 wipes for around the eyes, the ears, paws and coat, and listed as made in the USA with natural ingredients. They’re for the days between baths, after a muddy walk or before your dog climbs onto the couch; our guide to cleaning a dog without a bath shows where wipes fit alongside brushing and spot cleaning.

The rest of our grooming range (the slicker brush, de-shedding tool, steam brush and nail grinder) doesn’t state where it’s made, so none of it is on this list.

Safety note

Wipe around the eyes, not the eye itself, and only the parts of the ear you can see; never push a wipe down into the ear canal. If an ear looks red, smells yeasty or seems painful, or the skin around the eyes gets sore, stop and ask your veterinarian. The AKC’s ear-cleaning guide explains how deep is too deep.

What the label doesn’t tell you

Origin is one fact about a product. It says nothing about whether the item fits your dog, suits the way you use it or will stand up to your dog’s habits. Three of the six come in sizes, and for those the size you pick matters more day to day than where the item was made:

ItemSizesMeasure first
Collar6–9 in to 25–31 in neckThe neck, where the collar sits
Harness16–26 or 26–38 in girthChest, just behind the front legs
CoatXXS, XS, Small, MediumBack length, neck and chest
  • Fit. Measure with a soft tape before you order; how to measure a dog for a harness, collar or coat shows where the tape goes. A size that turns out wrong counts as a change-of-mind return under our returns policy, so you pay return postage and a restocking fee.
  • Use. The no-pull harness redirects a pull; it doesn’t teach loose-leash walking on its own, and its listing presents it as walking gear, not a car restraint. A lick mat is for licking under supervision, not a chew toy.
  • Quality and safety. The FTC standard covers where a product was made, not how long it lasts or how safe it is. Judge those by the materials, construction and care instructions on each listing.

Our Made in USA picks

These six are the whole list: every dog item in Nilosi’s catalog whose maker or listing says it’s made in the USA. That keeps the choice narrow by design. It’s a guide to what we stock, not a survey of every American-made dog product, and each reason below names the size limit where there is one.

Where the range falls short: there’s no small-dog harness, leash or brush with the claim, and the coat stops at Medium. If an item outside this list suits your dog better, fit and function are the better reasons to choose it.

How to check a claim before you buy

  1. Read the claim on the item, not the brand. Mr. Peanut’s wipes are listed as made in the USA, but the listing for its PetTrek harness set doesn’t say where it’s made.
  2. Check the exact wording. “Made in USA of imported parts,” “Assembled in USA” and “Designed in USA” each promise less than the plain claim.
  3. Don’t read shipping as origin. “Ships from a U.S. warehouse” appears on most of our listings and tells you where the parcel starts, nothing more.
  4. Look for the maker’s own words. Lupine and SodaPup state U.S. manufacturing on their own sites; for the DCNY coat and the wipes, the claim comes from the supplier’s listing.
  5. Ask before ordering if origin is the deciding factor. Contact us with the product name, and we’ll tell you what the supplier states.
